Garra Rufa fish (sometimes known as Doctor fish) can be found in the pools of a hotspring in the small town of Kangal in Turkey. The springs were first noticed by locals in the early 1800s and the pools built in 1900. These were opened to the public in 1963 and people have flocked there for alternative treatments for skin complaints such as Psoriasis and Acne. This trend has now travelled to the Far East and America and is now in the UK creating a lot of interest.

The Garra Rufa fish are a toothless member of the carp family, their appetite for dead skin means they are used in spas for a totally natural pedicure. The surface of their tongue and lips are rough and they use this surface to suck and lick dead skin from the feet.
